CAPE HORN

Do you see yourself landing at the mythical Cape Horn, where the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans collide? Cape Horn is at latitude 55º South, which makes it popularly known as the southernmost tip of South America, or the “End of the World”.

The sailors of old had a saying: “In the southern oceans, bellow latitude 40 there is now law. And bellow 50, there is no God.” Facing the Drake Passage, there is no mountain to prevent the waves from gaining height, or the wind from gaining strength. This is the reason why Cape Horn is the island holds the world record for the biggest number of shipwrecks, counting up to 800, equivalent to 10,000 souls of past sailors who lost their lives trying to cross the Horn. Sailors of old believed that these souls of their fallen brothers would come back in the shape of wandering albatrosses. Hence, you can see a prominent metal monument symbolizing the largest flying bird when you land at Cape Horn.
